Two kids

Pastel on paper, 51 cm x 66 cm (20 in x 26 in), 2025

After reviewing the list of her grandfather’s paintings from the lost exhibition, Two Kids resonated with Lorena Tomb. She thought of the timeless innocence of children who are filled with limitless dreams and a naivete that has left them unaware of politics and the dark side of humanity. What could her grandfather have witnessed back then? Was it two carefree children playing on the beach? Tomb’s interpretation depicts two kids taking a break from playing soccer, pausing to look out on the horizon and the traditional coastal homes Palestine was known for at the time. In keeping with her grandfather’s style, Tomb studied the few surviving paintings that remain in her home to draw inspiration from his color palette and technique. Though many of his works have been lost, what feels equally tragic is the loss of innocence children have experienced as a result of the brutal and unjust war.

Lorena Tomb was born in Lebanon to a family of artists. Her father Fouad Tomb is a painter and son of Maroun Tomb; her paternal aunts are singers; and her parents co-founded a successful art school in Lebanon that operated for 25 years until¬¬ the most recent economic collapse of Lebanon.

Throughout her childhood, Tomb and her family lived in Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Lebanon. She now resides in Los Angeles with her husband and three children where she runs a commercial real estate brokerage while nurturing painting and drawing as a hobby. She is an active patron of the arts in Los Angeles and during her travels.
